Operator & Preventive Maintenance Training Outline

The following outline reflects the desired sequence the instructor will prefer to take during his or her installation and training time on location.

Requirements to attend safety and pre-facility entry should be communicated to LOTZ when this installation and training project is scheduled.

Note: If third party servicing is contracted, that organization may be represented for this training and installation activity.

  • Instructor arrival, site inspection
The LOTZ instructor/installer, accompanied by a mill responsible person, determines the operational (post training) location for the equipment. This includes both the on-line and the standby (spare) printer
    system(s).
  • Identify installation parameters
At this time it will be determined if the mill is ready to put all of the equipment into operation or will that be accomplished by mill personnel later, or will another installation date be scheduled.
  • Identify operator -vs- maintenance personnel responsibilities
There are instances where the operators only perform one type of duty, while other support (instrumentation) staff perform preventive maintenance requirements. Some of these duties are: replacement of the toner cartridge, minimal cleaning of the paper path, etc.... Typical preventive maintenance items are: required cleaning, periodic supplies, "maintenance kit" and filter replacement.
  • Equipment inspection, inventory items
This is to ensure that all ordered items have been received in good condition.
Assemble & install all hardware items
At this time a facility representative will be required to assist in the assembly of the hardware. This person should be from the preventive maintenance staff and one who is expected to attend the training class. If more than three printers are to be assembled, the installer will act as the supervisor of two or more assistants from the facility staff.
  • Perform off-line operational tests
Off-line equipment testing is designed to confirm that the equipment is ready to be used in the training classes and ready to put on-line.
  • Confirm satisfactory equipment operation
At this time one or all of the printers are to be placed on-line to confirm all operational requirements as reflected in the customer's order. The installer will not be required to wait an unreasonable time should the mill not be ready to fully test on-line status.
  • Provide operator training classes (1-hr ea.)
Class sizes should be limited to four persons at a time. Each one-hour class will include all expected operator requirements. This is to be a "hands-on" class
  • Provide preventive maintenance training
Class sizes should be limited to four persons. This is a hands-on session, included with the one-hour session (above).
These classes are not technical training. No special skills are required. The preventive maintenance class is a prerequisite to, and should precede, the SERVICE MAINTENANCE CLASS.
